SOUTH MARTIN REGIONAL UTILITY (SMRU) CUSTOMERS

CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 INFORMATION

South Martin Regional Utility is closely coordinating with all of our community partners, including the State and Martin County government while closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation for our area. SMRU staff is continuously assessing and adapting our emergency response plans for COVID-19. SMRU Customer Service will continue to provide all services, with business conducted via drop box and telephone only. SMRU Customer Service (772) 546-2511.

The Town of Jupiter Island has issued a Local State of Emergency, and therefore SMRU is following the Town’s Emergency Unified Command protocol through the Town’s Public Safety Department. The Public Safety Department is in daily contact with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Martin County Health Department.  What this means is that you will be receiving COVID-19 related information from them instead of from SMRU, as they will be responsible for community-wide announcements regarding the emergency.

We ask your help with one emergency impact SMRU has begun to experience.  Due to the local shortage of conventional toilet paper, SMRU has experienced an increase in wastewater system clogs and backups caused by the flushing of other household products. Customers are requested not to flush anything other than toilet paper or this may cause a backup of waste into your residence.

Also, please be aware that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has published the following information regarding the non-spread of COVID-19 through drinking water:

The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water. Conventional water treatment methods that use filtration and disinfection, such as those in most municipal drinking water systems, should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.
